There’s a big debate about the latest cover of Portfolio Magazine featuring the one-and-only Sarah Palin.
The move to put Palin on the cover met with some staff resistance, according to WWD.
Others are saying this was a shrewd move.
In an e-mail to Editor in chief Joanne Lipman defended her story as “being about the former vice presidential candidate and “Big Oil, which is especially relevant now given plunging oil prices and increasing questions about Obama’s handling of the economic crisis.”
The photo on the cover is from Palin’s Vogue shoot.
Bottom line? Make the JUMP!
Smart move by Lipman to go with her gut. This cover will stand-out and there is still a tremendous amount of interest in Sarah Palin.
My criticism of this cover has nothing to do with the topic selection. It has more to do with the photo. From a distance, newsstand buyers will not be able to see that it’s Palin. There had to be a better picture!!!
